I couldn’t decide between the two versions so here’s both:

gleeful flying
figures of eight
bat at deep dusk
drunk on insects

fluid flying
figures of eight
– bat!

Though I haven’t seen many I know we have some bats in our area. They used to live in the overhang banks of the creek. I wanted to get a bat house but my back yard doesn’t get enough sun to warm them during the day.

I went to a butterfly ‘house’ once where they intentionally fed the butterflies fermented fruit so they would be less active when visitors came 😉

Oh… if you like unexpected twists in short fiction (he he) you might enjoy this ‘winner’:

  2. Both are good. I was wondering if you couldn’t rework the second one to make a single poem. The images are so good 🙂

  3. I love both. Drunk on insects. Fantastic. We have a lot of bats here and I love watching them at dusk.

The erratic flight of bats is so strange. Your explanation is a good one.
