A Few Birds …

August 22, 2022 by petrujviljoen

The night did little to put distance between the morning and the fight on Twitter the day before. Masculinity; closing rank, bawling defence – Not All Men! All the women involved opened their feeds to violent threats.

the day
broken – already
a panic attack

Brilliant sideways response to the prompt.

I like your poem, twitter wars should shut it down!!!
Politicians are the worst, I’m glad twitter weeded out the worst.
If they are going to argue us the media that the world has, not
squirelled away in social media. It isn’t social anymore when
    people act like that.

  4. I left twitter a long time ago… I will probably not go back.

  5. memadtwo says:

I don’t understand Twitter at all. It seems made for abuse. (K)

  6. What an excellent poem! Social media can be quite distressing these days. I quit writing an online YA novel because of all the mean comments a year ago. They were driving me insane. It must be much worse when dealing with toxic masculinity.

  7. Tell me about it. I hate it, but if we keep quiet, stay out of the fight, we become accomplices. I just wish I hadn’t seen some tweets, stayed out of a few battles.

  8. You captured the ugliness of social media brilliantly and that too in a haibun!

  9. msjadeli says:

I can barely keep up with WP and fb. Twitter wars where men are trying to dominate and threaten women. Why can’t they just grow up? They are like toxic babies.

  10. Sounds like a time to stay off Twitter.

  11. I seldom go on Twitter these days for that very reason. Well done.

I love that you and Gillena have written haibun-quadrilles – I might give it a go next time. Great use of personification too!

  13. whimsygizmo says:

Yikes. What a terrible day to start the day. I recommend sky. And breeze. And trees.

  14. Ugliness is often inspired by cowardice. Chin up…the sun shines above the horizon. Well done!

  15. Suzanne says:

Gosh, how scary. I’ve never joined Twitter. It sounds awful.
