Last (or at least one) winter I saw two Coopers or Redtail Hawk destroying a squirrels nest.
One hawk got a squirrel, but was clumsy once on the ground and the rodent escaped.
Grateful for the rodent even as one admire the hawk.
When I see hawks, they seem to be resting or just gliding. What my mind doesn’t acknowledge is that they are trying to stay alive and are on the hunt.
Some are small. We have the sparrowhawk here, only slightly bigger than a pigeon. Yes, they are hunters. So be it.
The ones I see are mostly the red-tailed.
Ooh! Grand and frightening!
Didn’t mean it to be frightening.
I saw a hawk outside my window yesterday, riding the air currents round and round…they are magnificent. (K)
I seldom see a hawk here but the eagles do that, aeons without one wing-beat.
