Solstice – Haiku

dreaming
the night
too brief

sun stopping moment
ere the intended return
earth tilts mid-orbit

An experimental haiku and a classic for Frank J Tassone’s Solstice Challenge. I write from the southern hemisphere so it is our longest day and shortest night.

We have just passed the shortest day – they come and go so fast these years. Very sorry to read about your cat, but glad that he seems to be recovering well. Sending some cyber healing balm. And wishing you a happy Christmas.

    • Thanks Ann. It’s a she-cat. She’s on my lap sleeping as I write and has been eating well for a few days now. I haven’t replied to your email yet. Meant to yesterday, and all the days before but got distracted (so easy for me). Will write more in full later. Thanks for the balm. I’m going to have some for my nerves too!

Aah! Poor little lass. I’m so pleased she’s on the mend. Thanks to you. Don’t worry about emails. Distraction is my middle name. Have a blessed Christmas. And here’s to 2018. I hope it brings both of us lots of everything we want. 🙂

    How uniquely we tilt 🙂
    Experiments are always fun.
Somewhere there is a haku called an American sentence.
Just one sentence. I’m not sure if there is a syllable count or just those breath moments as described in the Japanese structure.

(Good thoughts for your sensible cat!)

    • I’ve heard of the American sentence and apparently it’s a 17-syllable count but haven’t researched it properly yet. The cat is more sensible than I am at times!

  4. Happy sunshine from us here in wintery night! And best wishes to your cat for good health.

  5. Reblogged this on Frank J. Tassone and commented:
    #Haiku Happenings #8: Petru’s latest #haiku for my current #haikai challenge!

  6. I love the experimental haiku especially Petru, happy Winter Solstice! :o) xxx
