Contemplation
37March 11, 2016 by petrujviljoen
Mohammed: the mountain has come, so stay,
seated as a Buddha sits.
Baboons, monkeys, breeze and butterfly – a moving play.
The raven quarks: all live by their wits.
Melding, absorbing, it fits.
Frogs jump, water splashes – a comedy.
Blue swallow flits,
swifts leaving the only tragedy.
Vistas, wildly distant, fill the eye
grey duiker bounds by – real smart,
eagle gives a gritty cry.
Rhythm, pulse of the earth’s heart,
The moon tonight, a pearl – within a moan,
Contemplation the philosopher’s stone

You are quite the amazing writer and painter, I hope you keep posting poems and art and keep speaking your truths and thoughts. I love the stone too.
Thank you!

Love the philosophical contemplation in this.
Thanks Bryan!

Wonderful twist of images cleverly done, Petruj! Love the ending.

Thank you so very much! I’m never quite sure whether I’ve done something good or not. The feedback is encouraging.
you never have to wonder, Petru
Thank you so, so much!
The moon tonight, a pearl – within a moan,

A wonderful twist of images cleverly done, Petruj! Love the ending.

Thank you really very much. Never quite sure whether I’ve done good or not. The feedback is encouraging.
I love this. It feels like a presentation, and poetic explanation, of classic haiku. Wonderful.
I’m really pleased with the feedback about this. Doubted it somewhat. Thank you very much!
You came up with some very unique images; I enjoyed this very much.
This is my favorite part:
“Baboons, monkeys, breeze and butterfly – a moving play.
The raven quarks”
Thank you so much.
especially like the concepts in the couplet
Thank you very much. If there’s any criticism to add, please let me have it.
That ending couplet beautifully tugs my heart but these lines are gems too:
Vistas, wildly distant, fill the eye
Rhythm, pulse of the earth’s heart,
A joy to read tonight ~
Thank you very much. In future, even the slightest bit of criticism is welcome. Writers here are very accomplished and I have a long way to go.
This is lovely – especially the closing lines 🙂
Thank you so much!
Certainly a spiritual aire to this! Flawless execution!
Thank you!
There are some really wonderful references here… Like haiku being sung.
Was thinking it may be just a list of (beautiful) things without it being a poem about it? Thanks for the: ”like haiku being sung”.
Beautiful images here.
I agree with Glenn, a most meaningful and beautifully composed poem, Petru. I like the reference to the Mohammad quote and to Basho’s famous poem. Very contemplative with the images of nature in a “moving play.” Thank you for adding your work to the prompt.

Seems everyone agrees I made something! Thanks!
You sure did! :~)
Beautiful rhythm of beautiful thoughts.
Anna :o]
Thank you!
Yes, this is truly a contemplative poem–taking each beautiful image on its own–Zen-like.
Thanks. I had my doubts, thought it just a list of things, albeit beautiful without it being transcribed into a narrative.
Your eloquent & thoughtful piece represents the best use of the prompt words I have encountered so far out on the dVerse trail; so very hopeful, spiritual & positive–uplifting & rife with insights & truth; very impressive & enjoyable read.
Oh wow! Thanks! In fact thinking of a small edit: ”grounded rhythm, pulse of the earth’s heart.” Will let it lie for a bit.
Some really wonderful lines…altogether comprising a very interesting whole!
Thank you! Yet, if you have any kind of criticism of the poem, please go all out and let me have it.
